SABS University Hosts Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights

In a bid to raise awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro (SABS) University of Art, Design, and Heritages in Jamshoro recently organized a seminar. The event featured a lecture by Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan, Ambassador Farukh Amil, addressing students, faculty, and staff members.

Ambassador Farukh Amil elaborated on various aspects of Intellectual Property (IP), shedding light on the types of IP rights, their significance, and how they impact lives. He emphasized the role of IPO Pakistan in advancing IP-related initiatives, aiming to position Pakistan as a compliant and responsible entity on the global IP map.

Highlighting the economic and innovative significance of IP rights, Ambassador Farukh Amil stressed the importance of learning from global best practices while tailoring strategies to suit Pakistan’s unique circumstances. He underscored the potential of IP rights in fostering economic growth, protecting ideas, and attracting investments.

The Ambassador advocated for the protection of indigenous products such as Sindhri mangoes, Ajrak, and ceramics designs through intellectual property rights. He encouraged students to embrace IP guidelines and contribute to the development and ownership of innovative products under the SABS University umbrella.

Vice-Chancellor of SABS University, Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto, echoed Ambassador Amil’s sentiments, emphasizing that IP is not just about financial gains but also about ownership and recognition. Dr. Bhutto expressed confidence in the university’s ability to develop and safeguard various products in fields like textile, communication, fine art, and ceramics.

Dr. Bhutto highlighted the university’s commitment to implementing an IP policy, approved by the syndicate, as a crucial step towards fostering innovation and protecting intellectual property. Ambassador Farukh Amil, during his visit to the A. R. Nagori Gallery of SABS, commended the students’ creativity and awarded souvenirs to top performers in Ajrak designing, further encouraging innovation and originality.
